Nothing to see
Jul. 7th, 2010 11:05 pmThe top part of the front piece on the corset is corded. Not much left but the bottom of the front and the back piece. God it better fit or I'm going to be upset!
Oh and I have one several of those huge pant stir-er-y things. Next... fun with power tools. What's the over and under I end up with a busk??

Entrepreneur
Jun. 22nd, 2010 03:45 pmBoat Repair Fundraiser(TM) is in full swing. I've been sewing my fanny off. I've sold 3 pairs of pillows and a purse to people I work with. My plan was to have a little inventory to list on Etsy but selling before they list is good too!
So that leaves 2 sets of pillows, one I need pictures of still, and the iPad cover.
What I have pictures of is up at my Etsy store rather than waiting on more items. I'll add more as I go I guess. Cross your fingers everything sells!

Mar. 28th, 2010 02:00 pmI'm bored.
I wanna sew...
I don't want to sew...
I wish I could skip the underwear stage of an outfit. I get so burnt out on the necessities.
Why yes I would like some cheese with my whine!

I'm an idiot. Help me out!
Mar. 12th, 2009 08:10 amBasically I’m an idiot and now need to get rid of these pieces. They are a shade lighter than I thought and now don’t have all the packaging to return them. Please take them off my hands. Tell your friends!
4.25” braided dome bun
28” long straight pony tail, drawstring, also has the claw clip that can be put back in (the thickest pony she said she offered)
Color - #24 – Light Golden Blond
I paid $44 for both. Make me an offer!
The color swatch from the online store
Original Ebay listing for the bun

(I have my Fiskars in the pictures so you can judge color a little better

With all the talk of steampunk it's gotten my bored fingers googling. I won't have time to work on one myself but I found these and thought some of you could use them as inspiration.

I'm not 100% with it yet but the ruffler foot is tha sex! I pleated 11 yards in like 5 seconds! OK maybe that's a leetle bit of an exaggeration. I still had to iron each pleat for the look of the trim on the original dress but it went way way faster to iron them down when they are already made!
In testing:
one foot of fabric, pleating every 6 stitches = 7.5" of pleated happiness

I think I'm just going to put the walking dress up for a while. The dying jobs have me depressed about fixing it. I don't want to look at it anymore. I don't want to scrap it all together because the skirts are just fine but the bodice is such a complicated piece to completely remake.
In other news:
I got a Christmas bonus the other day and I tried really hard to be good and put it on the credit cards. They soooooo need it after getting into the house but I heard through the grapevine that mother-in-law is giving me a sewing machine for Christmas (one of those chepo brother types at Walmart I think). I couldn't do it. I ordered a new dress dummy and am going to pick up the map I want for the living room at a store here in town.
My measurements are an in between size med and med/large form so I decided to get the med/large with the smallest cover (10). I got the form in the other day and took the cover to grandmas to tailor it then wrestled it on last night. I'm guessing the foam stretches the cover a bit because it's on average an inch too large. So I'm going to sew it down a smidge and try again. (I don't quite get it as the cover fits me perfectly as is)
On the New Year's costume front I ordered this feather mask to scavenge the feathers and I ordered this hair piece thinking I would end up having to curl it to spiral sausage type curls. It comes that way out of the bag! I will say that it's MUCH longer than I expected and sooo much hair. I'm not sure how to work it to a more appropriate style with other Victorian outfits. For a saloon hussy it's fine for now as is.
Here is the test run. Sorry they are blurry. (I haven't done anything with curling my own hair so it blends better in the pics)

Damn! / Crap / Awww
Dec. 8th, 2008 11:08 amI tried to tub dye my Victorian dress. I left it in for nearly 2 hours. It’s a smidge darker but the heat bleaching is still there. You don’t notice what’s on the skirts. It’s the bodice that kills me. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know or if you think you want to give it a try I will gladly ship it to you.

Progress pic on the corset. I’m an idiot. I realized after I cut it that I didn’t mirror the pattern of the silk. Geeze. Oh well.
